"Jesus Loves the Little Children"

C. Herbert Woolston (c. 1910) wrote the lyrics for the children’s hymn called “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” He came from Chicago, IL. The words to the refrain are so simple, yet so profound, that most adults know the tune from somewhere, and it is still taught worldwide.
George F. Root, or Wurzel (German for) (1820-1895) wrote the melody to which we now sing “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” However, it was actually a melody called “Tramp, Tramp, Tramp” – a song written for army soldiers of the Civil War.
Here is the chorus to “Tramp, Tramp, Tramp”:
Tramp, tramp, tramp, the boys are marching, Cheer up, comrades, they will come, And beneath the starry flag we shall breathe the air again Of the free land in our own beloved home.
Root is best known for having written “The Battle Cry of Freedom.”
“Jesus Loves the Little Children”
Jesus calls
the children dear, Refrain Jesus loves
the little children, [Alternate refrain: Jesus died
for all the children, Jesus is
the Shepherd true, Refrain I am
coming, Lord, to Thee, Refrain
Most people now just sing the chorus of the children’s hymn, “Jesus Loves the Little Children.” In fact, few people know much more than just the chorus about “Red and Yellow, Black and White, All are precious in His sight.”
