"I Am Thine, O Lord (Draw Me Nearer)"

The famous hymn composer Fannie Crosby wrote “I Am Thine, O Lord (Draw Me Nearer).” Ms. Crosby got the idea for “I Am Thine, O Lord (Draw Me Nearer) because she had passed one afternoon at the home of Mr. W. H. Doane, in Cincinnati where the two had been talking about how near God was to us when the evening shadows closed in. By the end of the night, she had written the words to this song.
Mr. W. H. Doane, a gifted musician and composer in his own right, set Ms. Crosby’s “I Am Thine, O Lord (Draw Me Nearer) to music. Even though he was the president of a woodworking factory called A. J. Fay, he managed to write over 2,000 tunes to hymns.
“I Am Thine, O Lord (Draw Me Nearer)”
I am Thine,
O Lord, I have heard Thy voice, Refrain Draw me
nearer, nearer blessèd Lord, Consecrate
me now to Thy service, Lord, Refrain O the pure
delight of a single hour Refrain There are
depths of love that I cannot know Refrain
Perhaps the hymn “I Am Thine, O Lord (Draw Me Nearer)” is so well used even today in American Gospel hymnal because it was written by these two great Gospel composers, Fannie Crosby and William H. Doane.
